Are We Too Dependent on Technology? Today we use technology on a daily basis entirely for most things we do from service delivery to entertaining ourselves. Our ever evolving technological world is today subjected to both criticism and astonishment. Technology has found itself in a sort of pathogen that has manifested into our daily routine. Although over depending on the technology can decrease the societies direct interaction, depending on the technology can be essential in using it in everyday activities since it can make our daily faster, easier and more fun to do. There are those individuals who believe that it has taken over our daily routines, those who think that it only stands to benefit the world lives and some who have mixed views about technology’s effects. These arguments beget the seeds of controversy on this compelling argument. According to the Google search, Voltaire said it initially: “With great power comes more responsibility”. Normally one hears this quote from a title fighter, a Jedi, or a team that has successively won the Stanley Cup. I this papers the same quote may be aimed right at those who have themselves more dependent on technology. Many have been lost to technology and have lost the urge of an even developing societal skill as before. Most teenagers these days even lack the know how to use a dictionary since "Google fixes it all" so many of these teenagers dont see it as a required skill. Traditionally, children were supposed to take care of their parents at old age and through the advices they obtain better their lives. These are contrary to the modern teenage life. The modern teenager is those who sometimes 7 to 10 hours a day on the internet and other technological gadgets. They rarely find time even build their social life. This can be arguably be attributed to the dependency on technology. To further see how technology has to reap the world its treasures ,look around at the number of individuals who are engrossed in their personal computers, those with phones walking down the street, or while driving. No one can deny the fact that most accidents today are caused by individuals using or over-relying on various forms of technological devices such as their phones while driving, whether it is for GPS, to get on Tweeter, Facebook or anything else. Its insane and erroneous for individuals to fathom how anyone ever stays without texting, Google and GPS. In reality, Technology is a big assistance and a big problem. So how does one know when too much is too much? It can be clearly be traced to our daily routine and how technology has affected us. Think about approximately 50% of the population would in the real sense die without a little handheld gadget. These are shocking statistics, and if this isn’t control then I don’t know what the word implies anymore. One can also argue that technology has today completely taken over lives and made us lose touch with the reality. Large fraction of the society use technology from the minute they wake up (their alarm clock) to the minute they go to sleep (music for entertainment). The question they fail to ask themselves is What if it all one-day technology disappeared? What would they be left with? The point easily derived here is that technology has altered our perception of reality. Whether we refer to it as technology or specifically single out social media, the reality remains individuals are increasingly becoming dependent on these phenomena. A large number of individuals are glued to the emotions of the individuals they interact with on a daily basis. They assume that the moods in social media, for instance, to be their present mood. In addition, they have made themselves be attached emotionally aspects that are not themselves the reality. The over dependence on technology has been witnessed on the way increased members of the society all focus more the screen in front of their face as opposed to the reality. Nevertheless, the ideas of technology are so bleak; it is true that with every grey cloud likewise a silver lining can be seen. Technology may be regarded as a beneficiary to our society as opposed to the monster waiting to bear its fangs. The harsh reality is that technology is essential too. It goes beyond a clear shadow of a doubt that it has both greatly improved the societal lives and at the same time made it even simpler. Yes, one can argue that technology has deprived many members of the society of some skills such as performing simple daily chore but in reality the benefits outweigh its cost. (Have Advances in Technology Improved Our Lives or Are We Becoming Too Dependent.) For instance, think of hundred years ago when we could send letters and them would take months for the receiver to get the message to now being able to call anyone in United States and wait no more than few seconds. Technology is only meant to make societal lives easier it’s how they let it affect them that signify its control over them. One can agree that through proper mental training the society can rely on technology and still retain better mental health. Its all but how one is aware of their action. As a conclusion, one can easily admit that technology has impacted on every aspect of our lives. But the most interesting aspect is our continuous dependence on technology. The harsh reality is that it has taken over our society thoughts and destroyed the traditional social skills our teenagers were boosting of possessing. These have in fact affected the society negatively. The same technology has also made many individuals lose touch with reality, and their normal emotional attachment has been directed elsewhere. Nonetheless, the same technology has transformed our society and given it a new look. One could do without technology, but because of their dependency on it, it would be exceptionally difficult to adjust and go normal life. With this being said, nothing may stop the society from advancing technologically but caution should be taken especially in cases of over dependence.
