A survey was conducted based on which five skills were identified as requiring improvement. They are diversity, attitudes, self concept, motivation and interpersonal communication. These have been recognized as the most important skills that professionals in organizations must inculcate. Finally, three different ways of attaining the above skills has been presented in the project for each of the skills. Improvement Area 1 Diversity As per the survey designed to evaluate skills, diversity was the most important aspect which requires to be improved. It is realized that it is most important to inculcate diversity in the personality in order to flexibly manage the influence of external changes on the personality. The most effective way of improving on the above skill would be to adopt new ways of thinking for a particular issue. This could be possible by inculcating the best ways in which people act in various situations. The best way would be to take account of the different challenges, diverse strengths, and interests in a particular situation and resolve the same in the most effective way. This would be effective in developing a personality which would be suited for handling a wide variety of situations. The diverse nature of personality would be able to efficiently handle different challenges and hurdles in different situations (Kinicki, 2009). Another way of acquiring diversity skills would be to work in such groups which comprises of members who are different in characteristics and nature. This would allow the adoption of a wide range of knowledge and skills which would further stimulate divergent thinking. It would help in learning to manage conflicts, handle negative emotions and enhance effective communications (Kruglanski & Higgins, 2004, p.168). Mentoring would be another possible way of enhancing diverse and developing diverse skills. Paring of a junior employee with a senior one helps to create learning and promotional opportunities for people. This could also include pairing individuals from different cultural backgrounds, races, gender, etc. This method helps to remove stereotypical behaviors, beliefs and attitudes among individuals and broaden their knowledge base (Williams, 2008, p.461). Improvement Area 2 Attitudes The development of positive attitudes was realized as one of the most important requisites of being management professionals as they play to success in many cases. First of all a person needs to know which attributes are unique to him only. It is crucial to develop and enhance that skill as it adds to the motivation for mastering the knowledge which is required to reach the goals. It is important to actively undertake responsibilities, honestly pursue them and on successful completion of the task, accept compliments from oneself (White, 2005, p.4). A person could try and overcome shortcomings in his personality. This would include developing skills in areas where the person lacks confidence and gain expertise in that field. The growth of knowledge and skills in a domain in which a person lacks expertise helps develop self confidence and develops positive attitudes in the individual (Verma, 2005, p.11). It is important to focus on hard work and think positively about oneself. The idea is to out the maximum effort in what the person wants to achieve and not to give up easily. It is also important to create better impression on others which in turn encourages them to help him (Rinke, n.d.). Improvement Area 3  Self Concept Self concept is based on self evaluation. It is important that the individual makes his self assessment correctly in order to develop self concept. One must know oneself completely and identify his strengths and weaknesses. It is also important to realize that an individual ultimately controls his self image and also has the power to change it. Individuals could collect feedback from others to develop his self concept; however, he would retain the final authority in the same. Individuals must develop a clear picture about oneself and pay utmost attention to one’s own thoughts and feelings. The feedback that is generated from other must be utilized in the proper way overcome weaknesses and drawbacks (Weiten & Lloyd, 2006, p.165). Individual must make use of his own abilities to make decisions and think for himself. It is important that he does not depend on others for making his decisions. This way he acquires independence and remains responsible for all his correct or incorrect decisions. It helps to develop his intelligence and make the right judgment while making a decision (Hurlock & Mn, 1976, p.28). It is crucial for a person to emphasize in his strengths. However, it must be based on merits. Paying attention to the small abilities helps to derive small satisfaction from the small accomplishments and virtues and helps develop a positive self concept (Jancovich, 1996, p.19). Improvement Area 4  Motivation First of all it is important to look back and identify all that one has been able to achieve. The sense of achievement enhances his self motivation to achieve even more. One must recollect how he had been as a person few years back and all that which has been effective in adding tom his personality and achievements. The realization of changes in the people’s outlook and behavior towards an individual helps in uplifting his motivation and self confidence (Pride, Hughes & Kapoor, 2009, p.291). Motivation skills can also be developed through setting long term goals and dividing the path into short term goals. The accomplishment of the short term goals helps to derive inspiration towards adding extra efforts to attain the big goal. Each goal accomplishment enriches the individuals through learning and addition of knowledge and skills which provides the impetus to make further progress (Wiseman & Hunt, 2008, p.14). It is also important to stimulate oneself towards action. This can be done by challenging oneself own beliefs about things which are bad. This is an effective way of removing depression and moving forth (Bowman, 2005, p.227). Improvement Area 5  Interpersonal Communication Interpersonal communication skills can be developed by working extensively in teams. Team work and group activities allows room for more and more communication. Also the presence of individuals from different backgrounds helps in the development of communication and interpersonal skills (Reece & Brandt, 2008, p.28). It can also be effective in gathering as much knowledge as possible and taking part or contributing in group conversations and group activities which ultimately helps improve relationships and bonding with our associates (West & Turner, 2008, p.25). Taking extra initiatives in resolving conflicts, and trying to convey messages between individuals would be effective in building on the communication skills. People could try and exchange ideas among others and become a medium through which information and messages could be exchanged which would further improve on his communication and interpersonal skills (Meldrum, 1994, p.1).
